Week 7 -Jianwei Zhu A01

In this week’s reading, we read the article “The criminalization of immigration and the privatization of the immigration detention: implications for justice”, my first reaction was thinking about the recently wall campaign started by the U.S president Donald Trump. I always think it’s an irrational idea to build a wall across the Mexico broader. Many people have so much hatred towards immigration because they believe the immigration does no belongs to here. It is not logical because before Christopher Columbus “discovered” America, there were natives living in the land. So technically, only native Americans actually “belongs” to here. The idea of always blaming the immigration is because it’s so much easier to use them as an outsider, perfect candidate for a scapegoat. Just like how Donald Trump was blaming the problems on Mexicans. I didn’t say they didn’t do anything wrong, but it was a border problem between two countries, we need to unite both sides and try solving the problem, instead of turning our back against each other. Building such a long wall it’s not only wasting our tax payer’s money and I also believe that wouldn’t be a solution for that problem. The U.S government is trying to fix the problem by coming up with a remedy but not to find the cause.
Question for this week: What we can possibly do to make a change to the criminalization of immigration issue?
