Week 5_Christine Chau_A04

This weeks readings were pretty interesting. In particular, reading Empire of Death and the Plague of Civic Violence by Darrell Hamamoto had shown the different sides of what killing is like. He touched upon serial killers, cannibalism, sniper culture, mass murders, and others. He emphasized the role of society and how that influences ones' desires for killings. One particular section that caught my eye was "Highway to Hell". Richard targeted a specific group of people for his killings, and it came from his older cousin, which I find very highly disturbing. Richard's cousin, Miguel, gave Richard an image of dominance and a sense of power through women by beating, mutilation, and raping them as well. His experiences in Vietnam and the way he explained the situations he was in showed Richard that he could have the same power he had. It was long lasting effect that unlocked his true fantasies filled with disturbing motives. This produced his mentality of "yellow people as objects of his murderous psychosexual urges". This then takes me back and reminds me that sometimes people view Asian women as objects, something to fill pleasure for. I recall watching a documentary about the Vietnam war and what a lot of women went through in order to survive. White men coming in and raping women and displaying their dominance because they knew they had the power to do whatever they wanted with that gun in their hand. Now, in modern day times, they call it the "yellow fever". I have seen and heard white men talk about their fantasies with strictly Asian women only, because of the culture and just the way "they look".

I chose to put this picture with my blog post this week because I'm sure many asian girls have been in a similar situation like this before. Especially the "Ni Hao" part
