week 3 Kenta Nishiyama A03

From the reading, " Hmong Does Not Mean Free: The Miseducation Of Hmong Americans" done by Kaozong N. Mouavangsou. I felt it could relate with the concept of privilege oppress and causes of tiger parents. Asian people have been seen as a positive stereotype such as having a good education and high status in society, but the cases of Hmong people shows the part of " oppress."
The reading reveals the part of how education has been causing a bias toward different ethnics and history. Also, the part where the author has introduced the six different families names has a variety of livelihood in America. It shows the crucial points that the necessity of surviving in America is by the education for their son and daughter. The parents have a moral concept that education is essential and valuable to pass through to the next generation, creating pressure for their children to study. In other words, it could be one of the causes of the tiger parents for the Asian people. In addition, it is pretty interesting to learn the different perspective between Hmong male and women towards studies. Personally, I was surprised that Hmong women have more motivation to studies for the improvement of the financial situation; on the other hands, the Hmong males are more chill and do not consider education is important.

Why does the Hmong male have less motivation towards studies?
