After reading Kieu-Linh Caroline Valverde’ s article “Fight the Tower: A Call to Action for Women of Color in Academia”, I was shocked by the environment of the academic lives. According to Professor Valverde, she met lots of problem during her early year in UC Berkeley. These experiences remind me of the experience of my friend, Kailin who is studying at Chinese college. Last year, she and her friend were asked by her instructor to defame another teacher. The reason was that only one teacher could be selected to be the professor at that year. In order to promote, her instructor asked them to give low credits when rating another teacher. By this case, we can conclude that the academic environment in Chinese college is not fair and, many teachers focus on defaming other teachers but not improving their teaching and researching skills. Like Professor Valverde’s experience, unfair and discrimination are still a big problem.
