Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices

Entries:
According to the article "Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices", it mentioned that 4 most important factors for Asian Americans to choose college were academic reputation, family approval, affordability and career plans. I agreed with this result because when I applied college, the family approval was the main reason for me to choose college. In the beginning, because of the academic reputation, my parents wanted me to choose UC Berkeley, and they didn't want me to choose other colleges. They thought the academic reputation was the most important part of choosing college, but I thought UC Berkeley might not fit to me. I explained many reasons to my parents, and talked many times with my parents. Finally, they decided to let me choose what I wanted. At last, I applied UC Davis, and I found that I made the right decision. If I didn't persuade my parents, I thought I would follow what they wanted because family approval was very important to me. After this event, I found that Asian parents cared about the academic reputation too much, they didn't think about whether it fit to their children or not. In my opinion, parents should respect their children's opinions instead of decided their lives.

Question:
If tiger mom is not good for children's growing, what kinds of the teaching methods are correct?
