This week I want to talk about Amy Block Joy's
Ethics and “Breaking Bad”: Developing and practicing ethical skills. In Joy's article, I learned about two core concepts: ethics, like other skills, need to be trained to improve, and organizations like companies and schools should provide an environment that motivates members to be ethical. Before I read this article, I thought that ethics is something built inside someone. It is very hard to be improved or trained. However I find Joy's way of training ethics is effective: she uses the TV series Breaking Bad as example in discussions, and trains students to manage ethical conflicts. I think it is a good idea to use a popular TV series to let people start to notice such ethical conflicts: these happened in the TV screen, but what will you do if it is in real life? Also, Joy gave ethical conflict conditions and choices that students can make, and I thought about the example question myself. It is really hard to make the balance that you want to be ethical and obey the rules, but you do need the job and need to keep a good relation with the boss. It is extremely important that the manager of the organization should not only make the ethical rules, but also let everyone be able to follow the rules without making the "impossible" choices.
Question: what are some efforts that can be made to make members of an organization be able to follow the ethics?
