For this
week’s reading I read the article A Tale
of Two Campuses: Berkeley and Davis respond to Occupy Movements. In this
article we learned about the different actions taken by UC Davis and UC
Berkeley on the occupy movement. UC Davis responded to the incident by
complaining how the occupy students had destroyed parts of the school and how
much it cost to fix and clean these areas. On the other hand, UC Berkeley responded
to the movement by making plans to make the campus more affordable to families
living in the middle class. After reading this I thought it was very
interesting how differently UC schools treated their students. It seemed like UC
Berkeley wanted to help their students even if it meant losing out on some
money. But UC Davis sounded like they didn’t care about their students at all
and the only thing that concerned them was making the most amount of money
possible. It makes you think if UC Davis isn’t looking out for their students
and doesn’t care for them, then how are they helping prepare us for our future?
Question:
What is UC Davis planning to do with all the extra money they have if they don’t
lower the tuition? Are they using it to help students by providing more learning
resources or are they using it to help build their reputation with no regard
for the students?
