After reading
Why We Should Fear University, Inc. by Fredrik deBoer, I started to questioning UC Davis where I'm currently studying at. Since the article stated how the university is running seems like a corporation rather than a place for college students to have a higher education. It becomes more like an advertisement to showcase their beautiful campuses where businessman started to run the university to get more money from the students. Rather than, commit to supporting the students to be successful. As more I think about the article, it seems to me that I'm paying an enormous amount of money every year for a university to reach for my higher education but do they really helping me to succeed? I even risked getting loans, buying school supplies, and getting a job to support my financial stability. Sometimes I'm stressed out because I don't have time for my own. Furthermore, according to deBoer, a higher education nowadays is
where students are the customers and professors their servants...This demonstrates to me that college ground has become marketing rather than education. When the school has money, they can shut student activists who are trying to make their lives better because of the unfairness that are occurring at their campuses. Moreover, they can erase their bad reputation off the internet to attract incoming students consider their campus. However, to me, they just erasing their mistake but do they really learning their lesson? I'm hoping that the university I'm staying at doesn't involve with corruptedness that owns by corporations for their own profits. I come to learn not becoming a profit for their own goods so they can satisfy themselves.
Question:
What happened if a university is corrupted and the students find out? Is the university going to shut them up or?
