work so violently against women of color. Though often times the forces against women of color do not work in obvious ways, the bottom line is that they are present and the are far from going away. Valverde's "Fight the Tower: A Call to Action for Women of Color in Academia" describes her fight against the prejudices of being a women of color. She tells of her experience with others in the same position as her that, instead of join her fight, view her as competition. I have also had unfortunate experiences like this with other women of color. Because of how society groups us together, we become one another's greatest competition instead of each other's valuable ally. I feel it important for women of color to be aware that this is what the system wants us to do, but if we want to beat the system we must do the opposite, we need to work together. In the end of her journey to tenure Caroline's support system of three other professors became crucial and helped her win her fight. I think with the mindset that us Asian American women are not each other's competition, but are each other's allies, will also help us win our fights.
