Week 9 - Arthur Orola

Arthur Orola
AO3

This week, we took a look at some works that examined the Ferguson protests and the culture of solidarity in general. In "Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans" by Soya Jung, the article discussed where Asian Americans stand in the socioeconomic/racial spectrum and whether or not Ferguson really did matter to Asian Americans, which was a topic that was discussed in readings that we examined in previous weeks. Something that this article discussed though was the sort of emotions and feelings that are experienced with the systemic and intentional persecution of black individuals and how those feelings are key to making changes and seeking justice for those targeted. I wholeheartedly agree that anger and frustration are key in making change because those emotions are the ones that are most likely to cause action.

Question - How do we collectively channel rage/emotion in ways that can effectively bring about change without necessarily being violent?
