Week 10
“Introduction to Fight the Tower,” by Professor Keiu-Linh Valverde explains the misconception of the decline in higher education. The white higher ups feel threatened when the minority group does not stay silent, instead the Asian American women would argue against their superiors. The system halts the creativity of professors by bringing in more visiting professors. Thus, majority of the professors are unable to focus on their own researches or lessons and have to recycle lessons taught many years ago. Professors who fought against the university like Amy Block Joy, after successfully winning her case, was seen with hostility by her peers. Even after attaining tenure, the professor is still able to be removed from position.
After learning about the corruption in the university, it shows the true nature of universities. They consider the students to be a commodity and underpay the professors. The professors like the students are not safe, since the professors are still subjected as tools. As a new professor, they are forced to multiple classes, therefore, they are unable to focus on improving their teaching or progressing their research. Fighting against the university is to fight against the superiors and the corrupt system to receive their tenure.
Is there a way to fight against this corrupt system?
