Week 9 reading:” Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans”, it’s a powerful article written by Soya Jung, which addresses the issue of the anti-black racism set of mind. Taking as an example the case of Mike Brown, an unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed on the streets of Ferguson in Missouri by a white police man, the Asian American author discusses about the anger issues that originate from the power supremacy and the mindset of normalizing black death amongst Americans, which is not only limited to black people, but concerns all people of color. As the black feminist Brittany Cooper quotes: Nothing makes white people more uncomfortable than black anger. But nothing is more threatening to black people on a systemic level than white anger…”

The author transmits the message that although Asian Americans are a model minority that fall between the whites and the blacks, and therefore are often overlooked, what it really means to be an Asian American is to stand the ground and resist. Being armed with love and rage in the face of tanks and guns, Asian Americans and other model minorities must  thrive for a world in which we can all be seen, heard and respected.

Question: To what extent are Asian Americans represented compared to the Black community and what voice do we hold in the face of social equality protests?
