Week 5 Thomas Tran A01

In "Empire of Death and the Plague of Civic Violence" by Darrell Y. Hamamoto explains the violent killings and mass murders after the time of war. After the horrid Vietnam War ended the hatred for Southeast Asians grew. Many Americans were traumatized of Southeast Asians and used violence to overcome or "defend" their fears; however, this does not justify their actions. The overall mass murder or killing of Vietnamese civilians in Vietnam is down right evil and consisted of an estimated 200,000 civilians. As I remember in class, Professor Valverde stated this was the worst and biggest mistake of a war that the U.S partook in due to all the killings and Obama had the audacity to spend a fat check to re-write the narrative on the war. As a country that prides itself in the equal treatment for each individual it is down right sickening to see the mistreatment of my fellow Asian Americans. My parents chose to move away from their homeland in order to have better life and raise their family, so it make me wonder "If my parents went to the US during this hateful violence against Asian Americans, would they survive?"

Why does the hatred towards the enemy carry on to the people of the same ethnic group at home?
