In this week’s reading, we discussed about a “pepper spray” incident that happened in here UC Davis. A group of protestors are oppressed with police force for protesting high tuition. Furthermore into this problem, it was a reflection of corrupt administrators abusing their powers to protect their resource. This illustrates an current issue that relates to the majority of us who are in lower classes struggling fighting against the fewer people in the upper classes who have the power. “The Instruction to Fight the Tower”, it renders a deeper problem within the academia, specifically women in colors who are facing inequality everyday in their lives. The overarching oppressive reminds exist as a result of global capitalism and imperialism. Our society are mainly dominated by the few privileged caucasian males. They are hold most of the power to do whatever they can to protect their access to wealth and resources. Their goal is to make everything exclusive to certain people who “looks” like them. Subsequently, social engineering is design to centralized planning in an attempt to psychologically manipulate and regulate our society. Social engineering are affecting our everyday lives without us realizing their existence because we are too busy dealing our problems that occupies the center of our attentions. The oppressive within the academia is obvious, however, most people just see the issues as part of the social norms. The movement “ Fight the Tower” is demanding more transparency within the academia in order for people to find out and understand the unfair treatments that women are facing in the academia. “Several studies over the past decades have demonstrated significant losses in the numbers of women of color with increased rank”. (Marion B.Sewer). Women with color are seen as the representation of diversity and they don’t actually have the right to speak out for themselves. The overwhelming stereotypes of Asian women make them perfect candidates to simply represent diversity. Asian women are asked to only show up and shut up, their voices don’t matter and they will never be validated as well. Women of color are “privileged oppressed” is part of the tactics to regulate the educational system. In the article “Fight the Tower” Valverde mentions the Lordian’s anger theory “Anger is an appropriate response to racism and sexism”, which was a little bit confusing for me to understand. My question is that, why and how we can use anger to resolve the “privileged oppressed” problem within the academia.
