The Good Guys

I found the article Love, Money, Prison, Sin, Revenge very interesting when the author mentioned “The boys were Vietnamese Catholics and the sheriff initially had a Laotian monk at the scene.” This clearly shows that the people who were negotiating with the boys inside of Good Guys had no idea what type of guys they were dealing with. They just automatically assumed that they were Buddhist. Today in America, society views Asian Americans as just one ethnic group without no distinction between each other. The author states that the boys were just trying to be good sons and “assuage” their father’s grief from what their father experienced in Vietnam. I wonder if it was a male white veteran returning back from the war, would the media may have been more lacksidasical towards the veteran than these young boys. When it comes to refugees from a war they are looked at as animals and there is little consideration to what they have been to and what factors triggered them to do crime. In the article, “ I am a ma with a heart” the young man tells the readers about all the felonies he committed and how he was in for immediate deportation. There seems to be a high correlation of refugee males who commit crime and I believe it has to do a lot with what they experienced in their homeland.
