Reading: "I am a man with a heart"
I thought this was the perfect article to read over this
specific weekend because of Mother’s day. Although this article talks about
social issues and about being in and out of jail, it also touches on the fact
that family is crucial and how his father was always there for him. I found
this reading very sad because as an adolescent, Andrew Thi hung out with the
wrong crowd and got into trouble wherever he went. He seemed like he just could
not learn from his mistakes and paid for them with jail time. It was not
because he was a bad person, it was just because he was complacent in his life
and needed excitement and found it through the wrong channels. He was very intelligent;
he just could not put his mind to good use. I am glad that his family was
always there for him though and they supported him even while in jail. I do
have a question about the logistics of his story though. Why did Congress pass
the law that made legal immigrants to be deported after committing a felony? Also,
how did he get out of being deported?
