Deporting our friends

Austin Yu
Section A01

After reading Andrew Thi’s “I am a Man with a Heart”, I am more educated about the consequences of crime if one is an immigrant. Many citizens of America do not know that their friends who have not obtained citizenship are always at risk of being deported. When immigrants commit multiple crimes, they are sent to an immigration judge, where, most likely, they will be deported and sent back home. However to many of these “immigrants”, “home” is America. These immigrants came to America when they were young infants, and to send them to a country they do not know is unfair and wrong. How will they survive there? Especially those who do not speak the native language. Instead of America just getting “rid” of their problems and deporting them, why not educate them on the dangers of crime. Many of these criminals did not know that they could be deported until they were scheduled to see an immigration judge to decide whether or not they will be deported. And, at this stage, deportation is imminent. Andrew Thi was an immigrant who committed crimes and was sent to an immigrant judge. Luckily, he wasn’t deported. However, I believe it is important for immigrants to know the impending risks of committing crime and the consequences that will follow.
Are deportation laws going to ever change?
