Globalization in Action

Austin Yu

Jun-Sun Park’s “Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture across the Pacific” talks about how the Korean Pop culture has been becoming more and more popular. This leads to many things which include more Korean-Americans being more proud of their race. This also increases globalization. Because Korean pop culture is being spread around the world, our society is becoming more globalized. In places like Hong Kong and America, it is not surprising to hear Psy’s “Gangnam Style” be played on repeat on the radio. The spread of Korean culture is spreading throughout the world. Ever since these Korean pop groups got popular, it is noticeable that they have more of an “American” feel to it. Songs are named in English instead of Korean because it is more accessible to a more international audience. In addition to this, English words are being heard in the songs as well. American culture has a huge influence on other cultures. The same goes to Korean culture as well. The result is a blend of cultures together to form an end produce that everyone enjoys. The increased globalization will allow more people to learn more about other people’s country which, in turn, will lead to a better a society.

Will we see an increased in globalization through the spread of popular culture?
