Section A01
After reading Jackson Williamson’s "Deporting Our Souls
and Defending Our Immigrants", I realize how my fellow undocumented
classmates feel always worrying if one day someone were to handcuff them and
deport them. It was not their choice to come to America. Many of them came when
they were only a couple months old. The only country these students know is
America. These students are going to graduate from UC Davis, and contribute to
society and do many great things. What if one of them found the cure to cancer?
To deport a student just because he or she is undocumented is simply not okay.
Of course, it would be different had the student be over the age of 18 and was
well aware that entering a country without citizen is unlawful. However, it is
simply not fair for hard working young adults to be punished for a decision
that his or her parents made. However, if an illegal immigrant committed a
major crime, that should be means of deportation. 9/11 has changed the
immigration policy dramatically. After 9/11, Caucasians become wary of anyone who
doesn’t look white. This is pure racial profiling. Because of this, immigration
laws have since got tougher, and many innocent people are taking the fall for
it. What kind of changes can be made to protect these innocent people?
