San Francisco State Strike

In our past lecture, our class recently talked about historical amnesia, the tendency to forget past conquers and allowing history to repeat itself. At first, I was not sure what events replayed itself through history until I read about the San Francisco State Strike. This social movement happened in the 1960’s, an age where Asian Americans were beginning to rise in American culture. Regardless of ethnicity, a coalition was formed to reconstruct America’s education system to give more equal opportunities to minorities. I was amazed on how they took legal action to get their point across, and through it all, they were able persevere.
This movement made me think about the pepper-spraying incident that happened at the University of California Davis. Students came together with a common goal to disregard the increased tuition fee, and in the end, they were able to get their voices heard loud and clear. The beauty about history is that people have paved the path for us to succeed. From hearing what the past has done has me a firm believer that minorities work better together because our strength is from our numbers.

Question: What other movements had similar stories throughout history?
