"Asian Pacific American's Social Movement and Interest Groups," by Kim Geron, Enrique de la Cruz, Leland T. Saito, and Jaideep Singh, brought to light the battles that the Asian Pacific Americans have relentlessly fought in pursuit of social justice. It was clear to me even before reading this paper how deeply rooted racism is in America and all of the negative repercussions that it has caused throughout history for not only Asian Pacific Americans but for all people of color. It didn't help that even within the Asian Pacific American umbrella there was tension between the different ethnic groups and the so-called victories that progressed over the years have only inched us along what seemed to be a never-ending road. I wondered if social justice could ever be reached and whether or not it was worth it to keep trying. What I had come to realize after reading this article is that those victories were possible only because the Asian Pacific American social movements and interest groups throughout history refused to surrender. Those victories gave me hope. Although the war is far from over, we have won many battles and it is far too soon to give up.
Question: How can we better unite the groups within the giant umbrella of "Asian Pacific Americans"?
