Week 10
This weeks reading of, "The Time is Now", was a reading that i found to be very familiar to what we have been looking into in the first week. I think that the thing that really stuck out to me was that we studied lots of different aspects of problems in asian american communities, but it shows significance when we visit a topic twice. I found that the idea of tenure for the professors in Asian American community was nearly impossible. Even with receiving tenure, struggles were still in place for Asian Americans, and women in particular. I think that there is a stereotype of asians being naturally smart, which hinders the creditability that should be given to the Asian Americans who actually work hard for what they do. I think that i didn't really care or even know about the different struggles that Asian American women go through in the academia. However, after reading this article i could see the different and lots of accomplishments that women in the asian american community have worked towards to accomplish. Not only is this empowering, but i also feel that I can see the struggles that still lies ahead and i can't seem to find a time in my head that would make all the struggles stop. Women already go through so much and to be treated like such in the professional academia is a little worrisome.
Question: When will there be a time where women in the asian american community can get the same benefits and treatment as white males?
