In
regards to “Going
Rogue: ‘The Time to Fight is Now’ and ‘I Am One with the Force and the Fore is
One with Me: Our Movement for Change in Academia.’” By Kieu Linh Valverde and
Wei Ming Dariotis, Valverde and Dariotis go through the overall state
of the university, especially with respect to women in Academia. While the
majority of people may think that Asian Americans are well off and face no type
of struggle, both the fact that being an Asian American woman has truly
demonstrated the obstacles. Valverde and Dariotis present the audience with a
myriad of witnesses and experience of struggles in academia, all of which have
information that has the backing of copious research.
Overall
as I continued to read the article, I definitely support the fact that the
people normally think Asian Americans are well off and not in a position to be
in trouble, however the reality is truly wrong. Valverde and Dariotis emphasize
that a fight must be made if people are to expect a better future for higher education.
Once again, women especially are underrepresented, and I find it shocking that
despite the so called promises that university is putting forth and goals that
are supposed to create equality, the sad reality is preventing the progress in
going forward. Hopefully, these narratives can be able to demonstrate the on
going problems within the university.
