Week 10 - Alan Sani

Alan Sani
Section A03
Week 10

For our last reading we read "The time to fight is now" When Asian Women go Rogue. this piece is another piece that was written by professor Valverde and one of her colleagues Wei Ming Dariotes. This article revisited some of the ideas we were introduced to in the first week of this class about the struggles of Asian women in Academia. The idea that Asian Women in academia along with other woman of color in general face immense hardship. This article sites specific examples where woman of color not only face unjust sexism but also discrimination based on their ethnic background. Professor Valverde and her colleague are very credible writers because they have both experienced similar discrimination in their work place because of their sex and race. This is a very important topic to discuss and to have activism for because Asian women and other woman of color make up a huge percentage of the population of students in universities especially the UC’s. Personally I have many Asian American Woman role models in my life who are very capable and very intelligent, this include both of my older sister. I do agree that the time to fight is now because both of my sisters have earned degrees of higher education at world renowned UC Schools and they are a big reason i am where I am today.

Question: why are asian women respected less than asian men? how can we fix this?

- Asian Women are not respected enough for the capabilities that they have and they are often stereotyped.
