Final SAPSA Video
"Unfolding President Duterte"
Our SAPSA video aims to show who President Duterte is and how Filipinos and Filipino Americans really view him. Our SAPSA video unveils what the war on drugs is like in the Philippines and compares it to the war on drugs in America. Our intended audience is for anyone who is unsure about what is going on in the Philippines and unsure of why President Duterte receives so much criticism, yet has such a high approval rating in the Philippines. To accomplish this, we researched primary sources of information on youtube, as well as talked to reputable sources within the community--Professor Robyn Rodriguez and the Mga Kapatid 2016-2017 President Adrian Ang. It was challenging to create this video because this issue is very complex and cannot be given background, analyzed, and explained in 5 minutes or less. There are a lot of outside factors that affect different aspects of the situation in the Philippines. If we were to do the video differently, we would have added more clips about the actual reasons why he is so “greatly viewed,” or as it seems to be, in the Philippines. However, due to time constraints, this made it very hard to accomplish. One of the main takeaways from our SAPSA video is to question everything, because things are not always as they seem. People may hear different things from different--and reputable!--media news outlets, but nothing really shows the truth than actually watching and listening to primary sources of information.
