Xinyang Xu ASA002 A02 Week 1

Since Coronavirus becomes a challenge for many countries all over the world, quarantine is the effective solution to stop this airborne killer virus from spreading. People who are not willing to but have to stay at home all day long, their emotion is accumulating and need a way for abreaction. The vent for people nowadays is internet. Therefore, some netizens express their negative emotions and most extreme thoughts via the internet. At this time, they are blaming Chinese for the outbreak. Some posts on reddit become an example for blatant double-standards. As presented in the picture, a white male doctor and a woman doctor from Wuhan both post pictures of face injuries after continuous work, but they receive totally opposite comments. Although the main-stream comments under the pictures of the woman doctor is to calling out stop bias, I hope those racists who post bad comments stop holding such discriminating altitude, no matter toward Asian people or women.

The most efficient way to solve this is to call out for unbiases base on color. Just as what professor Valverde did for women of color. In Professor Valverde’s article in Fight the Tower, she describes her experience of fighting for women of color in the academe against discrimination. After reading this article, I realize it is necessary to fight back and ask those racist how ridiculous their double-standards are and tell them that blatant racist speech should not exist.
