Qianyang Hu ASA002 A02 Week 1

Coronavirus disease has generated extremely negative impacts on the whole world. Starting
from China, Wuhan, where most people were infected by COVID-19, was completely blocked.
People in other cities were forced to stay at home for more than one month, since isolation is
the most effective way to stay healthy. Currently, the United States is experiencing a hard time
associated with coronavirus disease. According to the real-time data about COVID-19, more
than 15000 people have been infected, and more than 2900 infected people have died. The
numbers are increasing rapidly every day. New York State is the most severe area with high
population density. People are encouraged to avoid direct contact with others. In this way,
schools suspend in-person instructions because of the severe spread of COVID-19. More and
more people begin to criticize China, because they insist that coronavirus disease comes from
China. What’s more, President Trump regards coronavirus disease as the Chinese virus. His
anti-Chinese and racist behaviors invoke criticism and panic. In the article “Fight the Tower: A
Call to Action For Women of Color in Academia”, Professor Valverde faced similar discrimination
as a woman of color in the field of the academy.

Personally speaking, it is necessary to be aware of the seriousness of COVID-19 as it is a
dangerous disease. In this particular case, studying remotely next quarter can reduce the risk
of infection for the most part. As for the expectations for the ASA2 class, having a detailed
schedule will help students to be on the right track. I’d like to receive reminders and
announcements frequently and routinely, because students are more likely to forget the due
dates and some other important dates. In addition, I hope to get responses rapidly when I meet
some problems, some technical issues in particular. There is no doubt that remote instruction
requires more understanding and tolerance. Although it is not the desired way of studying for
both instructor and students, I believe that we will have a delightful time next quarter.
