Haolin Li. Week 1. A01

As the spreading of COVID-19 through the world, people’s life is influenced to different degrees. As an international student, and also a Chinese, I think my life is influenced not only by the virus itself, but also the differences of reactions between Chinese students and local Americans towards the virus. The virus first spread at Wu Han, in China, which is close to my home, so people like me knows more about the virus especially about how deadly it is, and its infectiousness, so when I heard the news that there was a person who get infected by that virus in Sacramento I started to wear masks. However, I hardly seen local people wear masks and gloves at place where people are concentrated. Some of them even disdain people who wear masks. Now, there are 4,643 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 101 deaths as of Saturday at California. (Rachael Rettner, 03/30/2020) Yesterday, I went to 99 Ranch Market with my roommate, in order to buy some food. We saw many people started to wear masks and gloves, but there were still some people didn’t do anything to protect themselves. I and many students like me are afraid, not only because the virus is dangerous, but also because we may be discriminated by local people. Someone call this virus “Chinese-virus”, but Chinese government is trying to control this virus not spreading out of China. What people should consider now is not “who” spread this virus. They should think about how to deal with these problems and how to protect themselves.

I expect to learn many things from this course, especially how local US people think about Asian American, and how people think about racialism. I also want to know how Asian American identify themselves, and they life with local people.
