Blog Entry:

In this week’s lectures, topics like marginalization, imperialism, misrepresentation, and militarism were discussed within the education system. The reading ‘The Imperial University’ discusses these topics as well. It describes how the students who are marginalized by the corrupt education system are forced to become soldiers and to fight for their voice. Many examples of student ‘soldiers’ were also discussed in lecture and how these people were discriminated and labeled as rebellious for standing up for what is right. I believe that as a society we are concerned about conforming to societal norms or practices, because doing anything out of that puts negative labels on ourselves. The image provided shows the different scenarios of how society treats minorities under different circumstances. The reality is that major racial groups have higher priority while minority groups are marginalized. We are forced to conform and bend over backwards toward an education system that is controlled by corporates of major groups. They want to assimilate us and for the many the choose to fight against this end up being discriminated more by the major groups and even by our minority. The education system has become so corrupt that militarism has become a thing. Students are becoming soldiers to fight for their basic needs or for liberation out of this corporate education system. As a result, there have been many peaceful protest that have involved the police that have ended badly. I believe as a student, the education system needs to prioritize that the students voice is the most important. We are the ones who go through the education and personally experience all the good and bad things of it. But those within the board of education choose to focus on money. While I understand that money is important for the education system. The board should strive for a better way of giving their students the best education possible with the amount of resources they have. I’m asking that education system to divide the school budget in where ALL areas of the education system are equally supported and funded.
