Anthony Canavesio, ASA 002 AO1 FQ 2017, Week Two Blog Entry

This week’s theme we will be examining is “Debunking Myths about Asian Americans and Higher Education and Introduction to Social Engineering Theory.” One of the text I will be focusing my analyses on is “The Untold History of Modern US Education.” Initially reading this text I was shocked and had a sense of self anger for believing everything I was taught in history class, what i was taught growing up was twisted in a way that is  through the lense of the upper class. This article dives deeply into the roots of the early intentions of the U.S. education system, and follows it all the way to the evolution of our current system. Growing up my history books idolized business tycoons such as Ford, Rockefeller, and Carnegie as they are believed to be responsible for kick starting America into a position to be the economic powerhouse it is today. However, after reading this article I feel way more informed of the dark roles these men play in our society. Rockefeller laid out the basis for our society to have an education system that promotes simple thinking, and social grooming rather than promoting the idea of free thought. The idea behind Rockefellers system was to keep the lower parts of society within their social caste to ensure the wealthy would keep on getting wealthy. As this article continued, it became clear that the morbid early start to the education system was just the beginning. It became shocking to discover that in today's society that the people running our education system want to work towards having our children with educators as early as three years old as their young minds are more “impressionable and easier to groom.” This is sickening as we are unknowingly all being taught to think, behave, and be systematically the same.

After reading this text the one question I have is what education system could be a potential alternative to the current prussian education system?
