Week 6
This week’s reading “Is Wi-Fi in school safe” talks about the harm of
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) caused by modern electric power. I’m here to talk
about my opinions towards the problem. As technologies become more cutting-edge,
the society will rely more on the electronic devices as time goes on because
they can provide entertainment and convenience for people. At the same time, because
the technology nowadays is not able to eliminate radiations from different electric
power, the harm caused by them will become more serious. However, the harm is
invisible which means it will not show any health problems on human bodies in
short time. It’s like an invisible killer. This is the most dangerous because people
don’t know when the health problem will appear, and when the time comes, it
might be too late and there may be no way to cure it because it’s not a physical
problem. This article let me pay attention to the health problem. Every night, I
go to sleep with the router in my room turned on, and leave the cell phone
besides me, which may be the most dangerous sources invisible harm to my
health. I agree with the suggestions in the article that to eat more fresh fruits
and vegetables, and to turn of the cell phone and Wi-Fi. In addition, I think
this situation is the most severe for students major in Computer Sciences/
Computer engineering because they always have to sit in front of computers,
several monitors, and other electronic devices to do coding work and the
process always takes really long time. Finally, more and more children indulge in
video games, such as the ones on Play Station, Xbox, Computers, iPads, iPhones
etc. Parents must pay more attention to the problem and because the electronic devices
are more harmful to children than to adults, there should be restrictions
on children if they would like to play the games.
Question: Wi-Fi on campus is always turned on, and some
routers are on the roof of the classrooms or lecture halls. Is there a better
way that school can reduce the harm created by them while keeping the
convenience for students?
