Week 5- Brian Dang

Brian Dang
Week 5
A01

Hamamoto's "Empire of Death and the Plague of Civic Violence" describes many mass murder's in recent American society and the possible motives each killer could have. Each recounting of the murders continuing to anger and disgust me. Hamamoto describes many of the murders to be from those who served in wars, specifically the Vietnam War. He states that increase in murders mirrors the increase in wars and that the murders increase when society is more geared towards war as a culture. He states that those soldiers come back from war still unhinged and enjoying the feeling of killing. Other motives for killing involve race, religion, and sexual pleasure. This is still an issue that happens today as many mass murders and terrorist attacks are happening within society today. Many of them are religious in nature and coincide with the continuing war in the Middle East. The political climate and culture also are currently affecting mass murder as well. After Trump was elected president, there was an increase in murders due to the opposition from both sides. In this day and age of the internet as well, it is much easier for news of these murders to spread and inspire those of similar ideology. It is much easier for people to meet each other online as well and push each other towards these mass killings. So the number of these murders are spreading in society.

Question:
What can the military do to make sure that there soldiers come out sane or help them to integrate into society better?
