The idea of Nonviolence to counter Violence

In Response to “The beloved community of Martin Luther King” by Grace Lee Boggs

Growing up as the generation of the 21st century, many of us probably don’t think much about the day that is dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr. nor the history behind it. In this article, activist Grace Lee Boggs urges us to reflect deeply on the impact that Martin Luther King, Jr. had on our society. According to her, our nation could have avoided many catastrophes if we had incorporated King’s thinking into our ideas of overcoming evils of society. It is interesting that she juxtaposed the war against terrorism and the war against communism at that time. King had ideas of nonviolence to not only counter racial injustice, but he also had a philosophy that encompasses the people as a whole, regardless of their identity. His idea of nonviolence seemed like a much better idea than counterattack terrorism (or communism) through the means of military actions. Only through a change in fundamental values could we hope to revolutionize our nation. My question is, how could we let go of our fears of the unknown and make positive changes to improve our society?
