Response to "Nothing Is More Important than Thinking Dialectically" by Grace Lee Boggs
Boggs commented on how capitalism affected the way we interact. Our lives revolve on the idea of money and self-interest. The preference of self-interest makes materialism more prevalent, making solidarity difficult in the time of need. Boggs wrote very powerful statements that made me think about the state of American society. I was absolutely shocked when she wrote "How do we take seriously the reality that although they may not have approved of 9/11, the majority of peoples in the global south believe that Americans had it coming?" Boggs even mentioned that our educational system was obsolete. Her comments on how college was organized to send an elite to college and keep others occupied until they can perform lower tier jobs in factories. This reminded me of the following video, which may give ideas on what we can imagine as an alternative to modern education. What would Boggs think would be a good model for modern education?
I feel like Bogg's piece was more broad and focused on issues from the ground up. That is, she did not exactly specify Asian Americans but rather focused on people in general. That is perhaps my favorite aspect of her approach in this article.
