This article talked about the growing need for social
justice and equality of Asian Americans and how over the years Asian Americans
have begun to take more political action in order to attain this status of
equality. At one point in the article, Kim Geron states that, “examining local
and national events, they show how actions such as hate crimes, neighborhood
segregation, government actions, and labor market discrimination contribute to
racialization” (Geron, 619). Although I do feel that all of these things create
racial discrimination and the hate that stems from it, I also do believe that
racial discrimination is also caused by the hostile reactions we as Asians make
towards these racial comments and crimes. It’s the hostile reactions that some
Asians have towards the people making these crimes that fuels even more hate to
come from these same exact people. Instead of reacting in such a negative way
to such discrimination, people should use a pacifist approach in order to deal
with these problems, as doing anything hostile will only lead to more
discrimination and hate towards Asians. The video below shows how to deal with
such a situation in a not necessarily appropriate or correct way, but
nonetheless a humorous way that embraces the racial stereotypes we as Asians
have acquired over time. So here is my question: how can we as Asians help
reduce the discrimination we may or may not contribute to on a daily basis?
