Week10_Harry Kang_A01

The reading of this week reminds me of the concept we discussed at the beginning of the quarter, Privileged Oppressed. The article Conclusion Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and being woke again talks about the “specialty” and unfairness to Asian American women in today’s Academia. It sharply points out a problem existed and still exists in side Asian American people, especially among women. That is due to the traditional eastern culture deeply rooted in our soul, we always tend to blame ourselves for either our own false or sometimes others. Although, for decades and centuries, we Asian American people always try to fight for justice and equal rights for us, we just have to admit, as the author writes, “we accept these injustices as normal.” Even though most of us clearly know that we are being treated unequally, after centuries of those unfairness happened to us, we seem to get used to them and no longer regard them as big deal. This, I believe, is the true reason why we are still experiencing the “privileged oppressed” today. And the best solution to it, mentioned in the article this week, is to actually start to wake and do something; to let people know that we don’t deserve those unfairnesses; to prove to people that we deserve all the success and achievement we get and we don’t need to be sorry or apologize to others’ failure anymore.

Question: Do we have any Asian American protecting organization here in Davis?
