Week 3 Blog

This week's readings mostly focus on problems which commonly happened in academic field both undergraduate and graduated. One of those readings provided by the professor for the topic this week is "Opening the Box". The article is about the experiences of an Asian woman as an international scholar who is serving as one of the faculty members in the U.S. academic institutions. The author talks about how Asian women have been treated unequally compare to other races in the field. This includes little to no institution support, low salary as well as the problem in languages and other factors including culture, racism, sexism and even accent bias. As an Asian student myself, I totally agree with the problem or racism and accent bias in the academic field. However, I wouldn't say that I understand the feeling of Asian women in the field of academic since men and women have been treated unequally.

Another article that I am talking about is "An Offering". The article is about the graduate student discussed about the wound and rupture that she has been through during her graduate school year. The student in the story is a woman of color who has been through quite a hard time in her academic. She explained the way she encountered this situation to others as the process of healing from her school which can help the students maintain their good health both physically and mentally.
