In the reading Mother is Liberation by Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, the author indicated the difficulties to find a balance between professor career and a good mother. The author mentioned her sacrifice on caring her children since she wanted to do well in her career. I think this phenomenon is common in many careers, that women with kids are not welcomed. But I think for women, only a negligible portion of time in her lifetime was spent on giving birth. So why society still discriminates on women with children?
The other reading Academic Symbiosis by Wei Ming Dariotis mentions the ways that could increase freedom and liberalization inside academia. The reading states that the academy is a part of the history of dominance and oppression, and in academia every staffs' talents and characteristics should be valued. The author had experienced discrimination when she was applying for tenure. In the reading the author also stated a new system called "academic symbiosis" that could possibly reduce discrimination in academia.
Question: Will "academic symbiosis" possibly work, if it is launched inside academia?
