The reading "Resistance Is Not Futile" by Genevieve Erin O'Brien had brought some interesting points about adjunct professors and lecturers to light. These adjunct lecturers have no benefit, they have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck, and many more conditions that threaten job security. We have discussed in class some of the issues about having adjunct professors such as the distance that these professors have from the students. Many adjunct professors do not even have time to chat with their students to help them because of their hectic schedules and how many classes they must teach in order to sustain life. The universities that hire these professors usually do not pay them well and only hire them because of the surplus of people looking for positions in higher ed. This allows for the exploitation of adjunct professors, and it is not beneficial for the students or the professors. This relates to the discussion in class that universities have become corporate machines sucking money in order to make profit. I hope these issues can change and if this is the future for my children, then I am worried.
