Jason Indarto - Week 1 - SS1

This week’s reading, “Waking” by W.P, takes a closer inspection within the dynamics of subgroups and exposes the real truth of the professional minorities within these social groups. There were many themes and discussions that were introduced in these week’s lecture, the most relevant theme with this reading revolves around the discrimination against minorities and how people can still be discriminated and bullied even within these minority subgroups. According to the reading’s narrative, during the author’s 8 years of teaching in college, she had many connections in the workplace and were close to a number of colleagues so much so that she made dinner for them. However, when the lawsuit was filed against her, her colleagues that are so called “friends” betrayed her and offered no assistance apart from discriminating against her. This can be seen in the tone of the poem she wrote. The stanzas from the first half of the poem is being written in the narrative of the witness (the author) describing the abuse of her colleagues to a mouse. As the poem goes on, the author has a sudden realization, reflects and realizes that the mouse is a “human mouse” and that she sees the mouse as her.

Question: Why do people not realize that discrimination can also sprout from minority groups discriminating against themselves?
