Week 2- Deon Anthony

Week 2

This week I read “The Untold History of Modern US Education: The Founding Fathers”, by Jamie Lee. I definitely find it strange how education is becoming more and more expensive over the years, but we are still ranked so low compared to other countries. As stated in the article, “the U.S. tops the world list in 2010 in spending $860 Billion dollars on public education which is a 30% increase from the $660.5 Billion spent in 2000”. Yet, we still need more funding. Our schools base funding on standardized national test scoring. But how can one depend on a student’s test score for more money? Although, this also goes back to our educators. More educators are becoming reduced and unemployed, and students are to pay more and are expected to receive good scores on no background to learn from. The U.S. may be spending millions on education, but where does it all go to? What are we, students, given? And how is the education we are recieving able to help us truly prosper? Students spend hundred of dollars just to attend schools, and even more for books and other required necessities. With the amount of money we spend on schools, we should be provided with a much greater education that is greater than other countries.  Nonetheless, no matter how much the US spends on education we won’t ever be able to compare to other countries.

Question:
The U.S. spends billions of dollars on public education, so why are our educators being reduced?
