Week 2: Noelani Pastor

Week 2

The fact that the United States public schools are requesting more and more funding as the years go on is absolutely surprising. In the article "The Untold History of Modern U.S Education: The Founding Fathers" by Jamie Lee, I learned that the failure rate in several states is astonishingly high. In 2010, Florida had a failure rate of 89%. This makes me question why these schools want more funding when they should be focused on the knowledge the students need rather than the resources they need. As we all know, teachers become very important people in students lives because they are the ones who will help benefit you and your future. However, some administrators are so focused on how rich their school is rather than how their students are progressing. It's as if money is what really matters in the public education system. On the other hand, we should be working to teach students what they need to know in order for them to prosper as the years go on. If we are just putting unnecessary knowledge into their brains for the schools benefit, then what are we really trying to achieve? We should be finding what's best for the students because they are the ones that will be making a difference in this world and the ones who will be role models to other kids in the long run.

Question: What advancements have they done to decrease the failure rate in public schools across the U.S if there were any done?
