Week 2- Toby Lee A03

Toby Lee A03 Week 2
Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices by OiYan Poon and Ajani Byrd is that article that most interested me because it is most relatable. I believe that the tiger parenting style is used by many Asian parents including mine and a lot of my friends’ parents. I however think that this parenting style isn’t the best way to raise one’s kids. Simply put, enforcing this type of parenting style will only lead to one’s kids being similar to robots. Kids will be raised thinking that the only way to success is limited to a few paths/careers. Because of this, Asian Americans will be inflexible and unable to think for themselves. If they were to encounter and troubles, they would have no idea on how to approach and solve the problems because they are so used to things occurring in a systematical/rigid way. Asian Americans will lose interest in pursuing the life they would like to pursue and only live the life their parents want them to live. It can often be seen that the most successful people are not people that are inflexible and adamant about their own ways, but people that can think outside the box and be different from others.
Question: What is another parenting style that would be better and more effective than the tiger mother parenting style?
