Yiqun Geng ASA002 A01 Week1

In recent months, coronavirus has spread rapidly around the world. There is no doubt that more and more people are negatively affected, and the situation is getting worse. Specifically, according to BBC news (2020), there are more than 755,500 confirmed coronavirus infections in the world. We know that coronavirus is highly contagious, which means that if we don't do anything, the potential for coronavirus infection is very high, so it's clear that we should make some changes in our daily lives.

There is a hot question about how to treat coronavirus correctly and how to think about coronavirus. As an international student from China, I learned many ways to prevent us from coronavirus from the news in China. Specifically, wearing a mask, staying at home and washing our hands often can all play an important role in protecting us. In China, for example, where policies are strictly followed, cases are increasing by less than 100 a day. In my opinion, if we can make some changes here, we can end this nightmare more quickly. As for attitudes towards coronavirus diseases, it is regrettable that racism has become serious. Some people called COVID-19 as “Chinese virus” because the coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China. Because of racial discrimination, many Chinese people are reviled, taunted and even beaten. I'm sad that some people think the virus has a nationality and that Asians are responsible for its spread in the United States. Instead of complaining, people should put the virus in perspective and take immediate action.

As an East Asian, I am looking forward to taking this class because I like the culture and traditions in the East Asian countries, and I am curious about the difference between western countries and eastern countries. Specifically, I want to know what is the most important values for east Asians and for Americans.
