Response to “Love,
Money, Sin, Prison, Revenge”
Lam’s
article included many statements to which I felt strongly connected. One
particular line that I resonated with the most was: “The boys were Vietnamese, Catholics and the sheriff
initially had a Laotian monk at the scene". I felt a strong connection to
this because I felt that growing up, teachers and administrators never truly
knew how to deal with me because of my uncommon ethnicity. There was always
assumptions going around that lumped me with other Asian kids who were not of a
similar ethnic background. Although we are still relatively new, I would hope
that since the Southeast Asian population has been in America for a decent
amount of time that educators and potential employers are taking the necessary
steps in gaining some type of understanding.
Question:
How do employers decide what training or seminars their employees are required
to attend? Is there a vast range to choose from?
