Blog 7 by Hannah Ng (Section 2)

As I read the article "Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Culture across the Pacific" by Jung Sun Park, I was reminded of when "Gangnam Style" by Psy, a Korean Pop (or K-Pop) singer, became extremely popular in the United States and was suddenly all over the radio and internet. Afterwards, K-pop was widely known all across the globe and it made me realize how easily a culture can be influenced by the media. Many of my friends, including myself, were never into Asian music and they are now interested in not only Korean music, but also Korean guys/girls, fashion/style, food, and make-up. It may be seen as beneficial to society because people are more accepting of others; however, as there is the mixing and spreading of cultures across nations, we may adapt to other cultures and start to neglect our roots and traditions. Therefore, should there be a limit to the flow of a culture? Is there a way to get the best of both worlds?
