Different Attitudes, Different Response
Among all the articles I read for the coming week four, I have the deepest thinking on the article “A tale of two campuses: Berkeley and Davis respond to Occupy Movement” by Alan Markow. In this article, the author compared two different responses toward the protest activity called occupy movement in UC Davis and UC Berkeley. Throughout the article, Markow indicates that although both under the UC systems, two campus have totally different attitudes toward students participated in occupy movements. In UC Berkeley, the stuff indeed heard the voice of students and announced publicly to help students. Meanwhile, the announcement does not mention anything damaged during the movement. However, in the announcement from UC Davis, it avoided students’ issue on their annually increasing tuition fees but reported the cost of cleaning and repairing after the movement. I personally believe these different responses resulted from different attitudes of two campus. For instance, UC Berkeley treated this movement as a carrier for this students to express their concern and need, while UC Davis thought it nothing more than a student campaign. Thus, from this event, we can well understand that different attitudes led to different responses.
