Reading: Why we should fear University Inc. and Tales of Two Campuses
University and college education is caught in a political and economic storm where the ideas we are "allowed" to learn is restricted and tuition constantly goes up, all for the sake of bettering education. Going to college should be a time when you become immersed in different point of views and opinions; whether good or bad. When students gather to protest or spread awareness, the administration criminalizes the the students and ignore the issue that is at hand. Important current and past events are often censored to prevent a new generation of students from learning about the history of the institution. A story that I feel relates to this moment is the Allegory of the Cave. Even though we feel that we have seen the truth, it seems that our education is not as magnificent as we hoped for. Instead, it is more shadows being fed to us, with the occasional facts.
Should there be a system where students decide curriculum and transparency within the administration?
