The article Two Campuses brings to attention the two possible reactions when dealing with social activism from students. UC Berkeley accepted the change with open arms whether it had to do with past protesting experiences whereas UC Davis focused more on the negative consequences. What factor is responsible for the polar opposite responses between the two campuses? This ties in with the idea in Why We Should Fear University, Inc. because the administration is becoming more and more unwilling to accept the idea of improvement from a students' perspective. Censoring a student has become more prominent, instead of adults trying to negotiate and come up with a compromise. This also leads to the change in terms of how students regard social justice within the university. Mainstream society has made it normal for us to only care about ourselves, not to focus on the quality of how we receive our education. If and only when a necessity has been taken away or a wrongdoing has been committed do students rally and fight for improvement in schools. Questions I have include: Do we as students just go to school to get our degree that sets us up for life? Or do we engage in activities that better the university for generations after us?
