Upon Reading "Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California: How Higher Education Diversity Benefits Our Communities", I came to learn more about the type of unjust treatment that occurs and can occur within the UC system. The article goes on to provide statistics to show how some of the affirmative action programs helped to increase the amount of asian students in the UC system. Many argue that these programs are a form of reverse racism, and even people of color sometimes feel that the only reason they are in college is because of these programs. Even with the assistance of these programs Asian Americans are still no where near being a majority or even close in numbers to the white folk. These programs although they may seem like reverse racism are no where near as bad as the discrimination we see in people of color trying to climb the ranks into higher positions in their respective fields. I believe these programs serve as a small defensive measure for minorities and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
